Relex Smile technique

The ReLEx SMILE technique is the most modern treatment for myopia and astigmatism. At Laservisión we are leading experts in the use of this technique.

ReLEx SMILE enables the correction of vision defects in a safer, less invasive and more efficient way. Instead of performing the usual 20mm cut, a micro incision of 2mm is carried out. This preserves the corneal structure more efficiently and reduces risks. This technique involves the application of laser directly inside the eye, avoiding superficial layers from being cut, as it happens with less advanced methods. One of its advantages is that it enables the correction of a higher number of diopters.

More information about this technique

It is the latest worldwide advance in refractive surgery, it is minimally invasive and it offers the patient major benefits.

On a global scale, this technique accounts for almost one million eye surgeries since it was approved by the European Community, this leading to its approval by the U.S. FDA in September of 2016.

Laservisión started to apply ReLEx SMILE in March of 2012; up until March of 2017 more than 3,000 surgeries have been performed with this technique, with more than 700 surgeries carried out around the world.

The ReLEx SMILE technique is ideal for people who do sports, as it preserves the corneal structure. Contact sports or swimming can be done days right after the surgery.
